What We Do

The Mobile Bike Shop provides approachable, free access to bike repair services. Since 2016, we have been to seven neighborhoods around Baltimore, talked with thousands of residents, and repaired over 300 bikes. We started the Mobile Bike Shop to bring inclusive repair experiences to kids and adults in neighborhoods that don’t have easy access to a bike shop. 33% of Baltimore residents lack access to a vehicle, and those from low-income or minority households are disproportionately affected. Biking can offer a great solution, and we’re here to fix the flat tires or broken brakes that might otherwise be a barrier.

Bikemore is a bike advocacy group that promotes cycling and protected bicycle infrastructure, as well as advocates for the rights of the Baltimore bike community. We also work on expanding equitable transportation by advocating for safer streets, disability-friendly transportation, and sustainable infrastructure. We focus on putting people before cars, and expanding opportunity for all of Baltimore's residents.

Learn About Our Work

We have multiple ongoing projects across different neighborhoods concerning bike infrastructure, equitable transportation, and new neighborhood developments. Learn more about our work below!

GREENWAY TRAILS NETWORK

Lake Montebello connects to trails in Herring Run Park that go through East Baltimore. These trails are a part of the Baltimore Greenway Trails Network, a 35-mile loop of separated trails that will connect 80 neighborhoods in Baltimore.

Ten miles of trail still need to be built to complete the 35 mile loop. Mayor Brandon Scott supports and has committed to completing these final trails along Gwynn Falls, Jones Falls, Druid Hill Park, and Herring Run Park. Once completed, you could get from Lake Montebello to Canton Waterfront entirely by a designated trail path.

LOOP AROUND LAKE MONTEBELLO

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation closed Lake Montebello to cars to create more space for people to walk, bike, play, and roll. This was originally to create more space for social distancing during COVID-19, but now local government is pushing to make this a permanent part of Lake Montebello.

TRAFFIC CALMING

Thanks to the Big Jump infrastructure and the recently awarded NACTO grant, Bikemore and Baltimore City DOT are able to improve traffic calming along the Big Jump and around Lake Montebello. BCDOT will install traffic calming specifically at 33rd Street at Hillen Ave and along the Big Jump.

Hartford Road Bridge

New plans for the Hartford Road Bridge have recently been unveiled that feature a full-time parking lane and two full protected bike lanes over the bridge, meeting recommendations set out by the Complete Streets Ordinance.

BIG JUMP

The Big Jump connects Druid Park Lake Drive and 28th St. through a shared-use pathway. The Big Jump was implemented in July 2018 and serves as a separated lane for people to walk, bike, and use a mobility device to get from Reservoir Hill to Remington. It also slows down traffic to make it safer to cross into Druid Hill Park.

Though it was at first a temporary pilot project, the Big Jump is now becoming a semi-permanent infrastructure with concrete barriers, traffic calming infrastructure, and community-based art.

Druid park lake drive study

Druid Park Lake Drive is currently undergoing a study by Baltimore City DOT to potentially re-design Druid Park Lake Drive by implementing a two-mile corridor off the I-83 ramp of Greenspring Ave. The study will evaluate and identify opportunities for traffic calming, roadway enhancements, and pedestrian accessibility, while seeking to preserve and celebrate the historic relevance of the area.

GREENWAY TRAILS NETWORK

DOT is planning an installation of a two-way protected bike lane (aka “cycle track”) on Bush St. This would complete the Gwynns Falls Trail, connecting Middle Branch and Carroll Park. The trail is part of the Baltimore Greenway Trails Network, which is a 35-mile loop of protected trail connecting over 80 neighborhoods in Baltimore currently being developed.

Permanent bike rental

Neighborhood leaders, with support from Bikemore and South Baltimore Gateway Partnership, are working on building a permanent bike rental in Carroll Park. You would be able to rent bikes to ride around Carroll Park on an hourly basis. We are actively looking for feedback on this project. Give us your thoughts! You can reach us at info@bikemore.net.

southwest mobile bike shops

Residents in the neighborhoods surrounding Carroll Park are working on building up a local mobile bike shop. They plan to bring the Mobile Bike Shop to small neighborhood parks including Union Square Park, Desoto Park, Shipley Park.

Wolfe / Washington Street

DOT is beginning the design of a bike lane on Wolfe and Washington St. This is part of the Separated Lane Network Plan released in 2016. This facility would connect the Inner Harbor Promenade to St. Lo Drive in Clifton Park, and through to future biking/walking facilities on Harford Road. It'll be a meaningful facility in creating a North/South connection on the East side of Baltimore.

They are currently hosting community feedback meetings. Make your voice heard & keep up with the project!

Caroline Street

Developers of the Perkins Somerset Oldtown are required to give the road next to their development a Complete Streets design. They will be installing a two-way bike path on Caroline St. between Aliceanna and Monument St., where there is another cycle track. This will be built at no cost to the city.

St. Lo Drive / Clifton Park

St. Lo Drive in Clifton Park is also part of the Separated Lane Network Plan. A protected bike lane will be built on the road, making the road calmer and reducing traffic speeds. This would connect future facilities on Harford Rd. to Wolfe/Washington St. and create calmer streets inside of Clifton Park.
