North Avenue Rising is a $27 million dollar project to redesign five miles of North Avenue. The bulk of this contribution is from a Federal TIGER Grant and the State of Maryland. $1 million is coming from Baltimore City. In comparison, the Charles Street project from 28th Street to University Parkway was $25 million, with $2 million coming from Baltimore City.
This $27 million investment for North Avenue is nowhere near the amount of money that is needed to truly transform North Avenue to become the great street we know it can be. Why should just 5 blocks of North Central Baltimore receive transformative investment, but not 5 miles of North Avenue?
In February, the Project Team, led by MTA, is hosting a series of Open House meetings focused on obtaining specific community feedback regarding design elements for the project.
We need people to show up to these meetings to advocate for additional resources to be invested in the project, so that protected bike lanes, dedicated transit lanes and streetscaping for the entire corridor can become a possibility.
Can't make this meeting? There are other dates and locations. Check our events calendar or http://northavenuerising.com/
